South Africa vs England; 1st Test
Super Sports Park, Centurion
England Tour of South Africa, 2019-20
Thursday, December 26 – Monday, December 30; 1:30 PM, Your Time
The Centurion pitch has been more sub-continental than South African. The slow nature of the surface was one of the major talking-points during the Test series of India. So expect the ball to spin after Day 3. And there is something for both batsman and bowlers
on this pitch.
Temperature is expected to be around a maximum 27 degree Celsius and minimum of 19 degree Celsius at Centurion on Thursday where the second and third day of the test match can have rain interruption. There will be 50 per cent humidity and wind speed of 10 km/hour. A couple of thunderstorms have been forecast but the match is not expected to be hampered.
England’s cricket action continues even in the winters. And this mouth-watering four test match series against the South Africans which is the perfect way to make a way for the new year. Both the sides are in a transition phase and we can expect certain debutants in this series. The hosts have named six uncapped players in the squad, while the English team will be trying the two youngsters namely- Dom Sibley and Ollie Pope.
The Proteas haven’t looked too competent, either. They are coming into this series after having lost their last five Tests: a 3-0 destruction at the hands of India on the road, as well as a 2-0 home series defeat against Sri Lanka (although one of these losses was virtue of a Ben-Stokes-at-Headingley style wonder-innings from Kusal Perera).
South Africa was beaten by England 2-1 back in 2016 during their last Test series in The Rainbow Nation, but with both sides so evenly-matched, a 2-2 draw looks the most likely outcome.

England looks quite strong on the paper when compared to South Africa. And as the South Africans will be looking to make some changes it can cause England some benefits. So the English team will be favourites to win the first match of the test series.
